Lastly, a four of a kind is four cards of the same rank. If there are two or more hands with four of a kind, the highest card outside the four of a kind wins. If no one has a four of a kind, the lowest ranking card in the hand wins. Likewise, a straight beats a four of a kind. If you have a three of a kind and a pair, the three of a kind is the winner. However, a straight can also beat a three of a kind and if you have a three of a kind with a low card, it loses to a four of a kind. Therefore, it is important to have a decent pair when playing poker.
